* "Vampire" game called health risk *
 by Bill Kaufmann
 Calgary Sun
 Monday, March 11, 1996 Vol. 16 No. 221

A popular vampire role-playing game could pose a public health risk if
partisipants take the game literally, says a city medical official.
Health officials in Missouri say they've received reports some youths
playing `The Masquerade' are manually drawing or sucking each other's blood
to simulate the game's central figure, Dracula.
Calgary's deputy medical officer, Dr. Carolyn Pim, said there is some
health risk such activity could transmit hepatitus B or hepatitis C and HIV
among those playing the game - which is available here.
"Any activity that would involveany exchange of body fluid can impose a a
risk of transmission of diseases." said Pim, who hasn't heard of any local
`Masquerade' bloodletting.
"It's not a high risk but it's not something we condone."
The games U.S. publishers said bloodsucking isn't part of the game's rules.
Although staff at local stores that sell the game are aware of
participants dressing in vampire costume, they say they have not heard of
any bloodsucking incidents.

* Pretty Good Privacy(Protection) *

As some of you may know, there's a program out there(in ModemLand) called
PGP or Pretty Good Privacy. It's an Encryption Program, the best one, in my
humble opinion.
A lil history on this bit of Software. It was created by Philip
Zimmermann, and is up to version 2.6.2. Oh, and the U.S. goverment(along
with others) hasn't been able to `Crack' it yet. Which means, that once you
encrypt something using PGP, you and the person you want to send it to are
the only ones who can read it. Now you may say `How's that possible. The
U.S. goverment is some big evil Computer Master mind who can read everything
we type.' Well, your half right, the U.S. is big and evil(duck, run>, but
they still havn't been able to unencrpyt anything that used PGP.
Now your wondering, `Why due I need a program like that?'. Well, if your a
software programmer, and your working a `Killer App', and you need to send
it to a company like Electronic Arts, or Microsoft, or ID Software. You get
paranoid, you think that someone is tapping your phoneline. Recording and
copying everything you Upload/Download, and saying. You think to yourself, I
need a way to make sure that nobody steals this `Killer App'. Choices, get a
new phone line, bounce it off of 5 orbiting satelites, through 12 country's
and hope to hell you haven't ticked off some place that can bomb you with
Green Jell-O. Or you could encrypt it. I personally like the second
option(less hassle, and I don't like Green Jell-O).
What's the hitch? Is this program `CrippleWare, or Pirated?'. No, it's
shareware, and the only hitch is that it's Illegal to `Export' it overseas.
Since the U.S.(and Canadian) goverments haven't been able to `crack' it yet,
it could be coincidered supply of munitions. Why? Because another
country(one that doesn't like us) could encrypt secert data about Canada(or
the U.S.) and use it against us.
Some storys about PGP. The creator has been under investigation by the FBI
for 2(or was it 3) years now. It has been used to tell other country's about
human rights violations. In Russia(C.I.S.) you cannot send encrpyted data
without a lisence.
Where can you pick up PGP? Well, you can try M.I.T. or you could call
Dischorida at 283-3863. If that's busy(like when isn't it) try Creo
Imagnum(note: change spelling later) at 228-4901.

* Kitiara's Revenge *

 Monday, March 11, 1996 Vol. 1 No. 1

As some of out there know, Kitiara's Revenge is shutting down for the time
being. The Sysop is now a student and has tried everything possible to make
ends meet. They havn't, so while she is in school, Kit's is being shut down.
Now, all is not lost, Kit's may still survive asa single line BBS, or
possbly two lines, but not eight, like as in it's glory.
A little history about Kitiara's Revenege. It started off small(1line) in
late 1994. By early 1995, it had grown, to eight lines on a rotary system.
Late in 1995 it went to eight single lines. The Sysop<s> had just moved from
Toronto, they missed there old BBS back East and started looking for one in
Calgary. They tried the usuals, Octapode, Chromhenge, Chatline, Foundation.
They didn't find what they were looking for. So they set out on a mission
(Not to be confused with a three hour tour) to setup a BBS not until the one
back East. They Succeeded.

She must have been beautiful.
Her perfect posture,
nervously poised for flight,
gracefully spins your thoughts
`round a marbled dance floor.
Flawlessly leathered hands,
tracing condensation rivers,
playfully encircle your neck,
pulling you close
to widowed, cherry blossom lips,
that pout elegantly around
an endless stream of cigarettes.
Sultry, aged eyes of innocence
peer through a dimly-lit,
smoke-laden fog,
teasing you with laughter.
Gray, tangled strands,
dipped in gold
embrace her neck,
finer than Parisian furs.
Soft sigh of shoulders,
delicate bend of drink to lips,
a gracious host,
she must have been beautiful.
