Well, I've been in this crazy world of geeking since late 1991. In my time
I've seen the Calgary BBS scene change alot. <Add Grampa Simpson voice> Why
I remembah when 2400 was the standard. Now for the sake of new users, I felt
like chronicling the BBS scene. So, with the aid of pretty diagrams, and
other users here's our history<circa 1991>.

*Music - General*
 By Nscafe Unleaded

As we all know, there is alot of music out there that just isn't good.
Some may call it rap, others country, still others classical, or industrial.
Good music should sound good to whoever listens to it. Not by what is
socially acceptable. Remember that flash in the pan Vannilla Ice? His hit
tune Ice Ice baby? It did sound good, but he wasn't the first to use those
notes, Queen did. Since then Queen has come back to life(with a lil help
from that movie Waynes World). Now what about that whole Run D.M.C. and
Aerosmith thing? Run D.M.C. used the first few beats of Walk this way, and
Aerosmith did a video with them. <shrug> Another strange turn of events.
What about music groups using sounds from video games? Well, the Smashing
Pumpkins used an explosion or two from Doom. What about all you Mod makers
out there? I know alot of you actully go through the pain, and struggle of
making your own drums beats. But there's alot of you who just Rip other
peoples Mods, and re-organize the sounds to call your own. Not that that's a
bad thing<tisk tisk>. Just an observation. Back to my original point. Good
music should sound good, if it's been done before who cares. Just ajust it
enough to get away from those pesky copyright laws. You should be ok. REALLY!

*Games - The fore-front of better hardware*
 By Nscafe Unleaded

Gameing, the only form of computing that actully makes use of better
hardware. Look at it this way, if it wasn't for Wing Commander 4, and it's
full surrsound-sound music, would you really have bought those computer
speakers with the subwoofer? Or did that spread-sheet actully need sound?
Just recently has a Operating system been able to abuse the horse power of a
Pentium 100. It's called Windows '95. As much as I hate using a Icon based
system, I'm glad someone created a useful software program to make use of
Pentium. Besides OS/2, and many 3D rendering programs, what else uses a
Pentium as a requirement? Just games. I yet to see Spreadsheet program that
won't run on anything less then Pentium.
Now I wonder, what will the next game be like? Lets see, we have motion
sickness from Wolfinstein. Surround Sound from Wing Commander. 360ø
landscaping from Super Mario64<I know it's not a computer game, but the
principle is the same>.
As I see it, unless Silicon Graphics Machines comes WAAAAAY down in price,
and also start a good gaming software base, there isn't much more a 6x86 can
do. Well, there is still that whole Virtual Reality thing that needs to be
exploited <smile>.

*Review - The Tragiclly Hip Concert*
 By Nscafe Unleaded
 Saturday, November 16, 1996 Vol 1. No. 6

Wow! What a concert. Ok, so the Rheostatics could be better. Not a big
deal. The first thing that caught most people's eyes were the lights.
Another feat of modern technology. Laser Lights, I REALLY should get some
for the basement<smile>. Remember how the sheild looked in Highlander 2?
Well, at one point that's what the Saddledome looked like. All nice and
green and purple. It looked so pretty, you wanted to reach out and touch it.
K, I know this is kinda short for a review... but all I can really say is
WoW. I enjoyed it... mostly, execpt for that shrieking lady(if I could use
that term) behind me. Overall I'd give it a 8 out of 10. Oh yea, and thanks
to Repunzel for taking me. Happy Early Birthday eh!?
